The New York Times lost the blue tick on Twitter
Twitter has stripped the New York Times of its Blue Tick after it refused to pay to be verified. Twitter's new policy on blue badges came into effect on April 1. The new policy brings Blue Badge under subscription. As a result, Twitter is asking pre-verified Twitter accounts to come under subscription. Those who do not do so will have their blue tick removed.
Several organizations, including the New York Times, and several celebrities have announced that they will not pay for it.
After the announcement of the New York Times, Elon Musk started making offensive comments about the newspaper.
He wrote on Twitter - The real sad thing about the New York Times is that their propaganda isn't even interesting.
The New York Times, however, did not respond to Musk's comments.
Previously, actors, sportspersons, politicians and social figures were given blue ticks next to their names to mark their accounts as verified. But after Elon Musk bought ownership of Twitter last year, he announced — those who want to add a blue tick next to their name will get it if they pay. Those on Android and iOS devices will have to spend $11 per month to get the Twitter Blue Tick mark. And if you subscribe from the website, you have to pay 8 dollars. Twitter also has annual packages. If one wants to take Blue Tick mark for one year then they will get 12 percent discount.
