Wikipedia founder fined
A Russian court has fined the founder of the online free encyclopedia Wikipedia 800,000 rubles (about 10 lakhs in Bangladeshi currency) for failing to remove extremist content.
The country's Tagansky District Court fined Wikimedia Foundation, the founder of Wikipedia. Russian media have told a court that a song by the rock band Saikia, or Saishit, accused of "extremism" was not removed by Wikimedia.
However, Wikimedia has not commented on this yet. Last year, Russia fined Wikipedia heavily for spreading 'misinformation' about the Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, Russia has been trying to launch its own encyclopedia for a long time. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said a Russian analogue was essential. Where there will be verified accurate and objective information. He added, "We know that Wikipedia contains many distortions, many untruths, many historical-factual and other errors."
Earlier, Russia fined Wikimedia 9 million rubles last year.
