Romanian authorities have detained three Bangladeshi migrants as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration. Romania General Inspectorate for Immigration has confirmed that one of them has been deported to Dhaka.

Since 2022, Romanian law and order forces, including the border police, have been conducting various operations against illegal immigration across the country.

As a result, Bucharest authorities arrested three Bangladeshi immigrants from Bistrita-Nasaud County in Central-Eastern Romania on May 3. The country's General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) has informed this information in a press release.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Police Inspectorate of Bistria-Nassaud County and the gendarmerie branch of the local police.

The notification also said that the three detained irregular Bangladeshis are aged between 22 and 46 years. They all came to Romania legally with long-term work permit visas. But their visas were not valid at the time of the raid. As a result, they were staying irregularly in Romania.

According to the rules, when the long-term visa or residence permit expires, the relevant migrants are obliged to leave the territory of Romania.

The local immigration office has issued a notice against two of the three detained Bangladeshis to voluntarily leave Romania within 15 days.

A third person was taken to the Henri Conda Airport border point in Bucharest after being detained. Later, he was deported to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on a special charter flight in the presence of the Romanian police.

The person is banned from entering the European Union member states for 1 year and the European Economic Area and Switzerland for 6 months before being deported.

All legal structures of foreign nationals entering and residing in the territory of Romania are governed by a special ordinance or OUG. The entry, right of stay and obligations of foreigners are governed by the amended provisions of Article 194/2002 of this Ordinance.

In the notification, the IGI also said that such action against illegal stay and illegal activities of migrants will continue. All foreign nationals residing in Romania are urged to abide by the law.
