Uganda passed strict laws against homosexuality

African country Uganda has strict laws against homosexuality. The country's legislature passed a bill on Tuesday. It has been said that if someone is identified as a homosexual, he will face severe punishment.

The controversial bill passed by the Ugandan legislature criminalizes being transgender or LGBTQ, the BBC reported. If such a person is identified, he can go to jail for 10 years.

Uganda's new law says homosexuals can face the death penalty if found guilty of having sex. Promotion of homosexuality or transsexualism is also prohibited.

Homosexuality is already banned in more than 30 African countries, including Uganda. But this is the first time Uganda has passed a bill to punish converts.

After the bill was passed, David Bahati, a member of the Ugandan legislature, said, "Our Creator God is pleased with what has happened." I support the bill to protect the future of our children.'

Many in that country, like David, have expressed support for the new law. According to them, conversion hurts conservative and religious African traditions and values. That is why transgenders need to be punished.

The bill will soon be sent to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for conversion into law. Although Museveni has not commented on this, he has long opposed transgender rights.

Already, transgender people in the country face widespread legal discrimination and violence. Meanwhile, the opponents of this law think that their life will become more difficult after the passing of this new law.
