Trump to surrender at Georgia`s Fulton County Jail on Thursday

Former US President Donald Trump has announced his surrender. He will surrender to a lawsuit filed in the state of Georgia on charges of trying to change the 2020 election results.

Trump was earlier given until Friday (August 25) to surrender. And he is going to surrender according to that instruction. Reuters and AFP reported this information in two separate reports on Tuesday (August 22).

Former US President Donald Trump has said he will surrender after being charged with trying to alter the election results filed in the state of Georgia, according to reports. He will surrender next Thursday (August 24).

This information was given by the former Republican President himself in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday local time. There, Trump said, "I'm going to Atlanta next Thursday to be arrested."

The next presidential election in the United States will be held in November 2024 and Trump has already announced his candidacy. In addition, Trump is ahead in public opinion polls than other leaders of the Republican Party who are running for the presidential nomination.

In this situation, the former US president has also claimed that the charges brought against him are politically motivated.

Incidentally, the charges brought against Trump began on January 2, 2021. On that day, Trump called Georgia's chief election officer Brad Raffensperger to prevent his defeat in the state. But Brad refused his request.

Four days later, on January 6, 2021, Trump supporters attacked Capitol Hill, the symbol of American democracy. On that day, the newly elected President Joe Biden was supposed to be confirmed by the Senate.

Trump, meanwhile, has denied any wrongdoing in Georgia. He alleged that Attorney Willis was being investigated for being politically motivated. Willis is primarily the policy attorney for the Joe Biden administration.

After Trump was charged, Attorney Fanny Wills said that the remaining 18 defendants, including Trump, must surrender by August 25. "According to the common law of Georgia, the judges issued arrest warrants against the accused," he said. I am giving the defendants an opportunity to surrender voluntarily till August 25.

However, Trump said on Monday that he would surrender a day before the end of the deadline.

It should be noted that in the middle of this August, former US President Donald Trump was accused of involvement in a crime of trying to change the election results in the state of Georgia during the 2020 election.

The 13 formal charges against him include violating Georgia's anti-bullying racketeering law against intimidation, violating the oath of office of a public official and conspiracy to defraud.

18 others have been charged with the same, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former US Justice Department official Jeffrey Clarke.

In addition, Trump has already faced charges under federal law for trying to undermine the victory of current President Joe Biden in the same election.
