Cab drivers upset over 20mph speed limit in London
New rules have come into effect on roads in London's five council areas with a maximum speed of twenty miles per hour. Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington, Camden and Haringey Council's 17 miles of Red Routes are newly covered by the scheme.
The Mayor of London and the Transport for London Authority are implementing a plan to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on London's roads to zero by 2041. Lowering the maximum speed limit is one step towards achieving this goal. But many are dissatisfied with the implementation of this policy of the London mayor. They say that the traffic congestion in the city will increase due to the slow speed of the vehicles.
Many London roads already have a 20 mph speed limit. But Transport for London has accelerated work to bring more roads under the speed limit. By next year, 137 miles of city roads will be brought under reduced speed limits.
From motorists, cyclists to pedestrians, everyone wants safe and accident-free roads. But the London mayor has come under severe criticism for slow roads. The London Mayor's Office needs to gain momentum to garner support from the general public.
Lisa drove a cab on the streets of London for 5 years. He is also feeling the effects of this slow road.
Driving in the city of London has changed a lot in recent years. Because some places have been designated as low-traffic neighborhoods, some places have been given space for cycle lanes and low-emission zones have been implemented. Whether everyone likes it or not, the new 20 mph speed limit road is being widened.
