Another strong tornado in the United States, 5 dead
A terrible tornado hit the US state of Missouri. At least 5 people died in the storm. Apart from this, houses and vehicles have also been extensively damaged. Millions of residents have been cut off. Meanwhile, a tornado warning has been issued in several other states.
The storm moved through the southeastern part of the state on Wednesday (April 5), causing extensive damage in Bollinger County, officials said.
The US National Weather Service cited storm watchers as saying that the tornado hit the area around 3:30 a.m. local time.
Officials of several government agencies conducted extensive search and rescue operations in the destroyed homes and businesses in the rural area, Reuters reported.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Superintendent Eric Olson said five people were killed and five others injured, along with 87 structures damaged and 12 buildings destroyed.
Images shared on social media showed the devastation of a village called Glen Allen, 177 kilometers south of St. Louis. Pictures show damaged homes with roofs blown off, uprooted trees and downed electrical wires, as well as streets and front yards littered with debris.
Just days ago, at least 32 people were killed in powerful tornadoes that struck across a large area in the South and Midwest of the United States.
A week earlier, 26 people died in Rolling Fork, a town in the Mississippi Delta that was devastated by a tornado.
