Over 682 Bangladeshis being evacuated to Port Sudan
682 Bangladeshis left for the country from Sudan. They are being returned under the management of the Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum amid armed conflict in the country.
Acting Ambassador of Bangladesh in Khartoum Tarek Ahmed confirmed this information. He said that these Bangladeshis left for Port Sudan by 13 buses from three places on Tuesday morning.
The ambassador also said that the departing Bangladeshis have to travel about 1000 kilometers to reach Port Sudan.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum said it had arranged for buses to take Bangladeshis from Khartoum and surrounding towns to Port Sudan. All the Bangladeshis stuck in Sudan will be taken to Port Sudan by May 2 and they will reach Jeddah in a day or two, the embassy said.
At the time, two Bangladeshi schools in Jeddah were said to provide food, water, medicine and temporary accommodation to citizens brought from Sudan.
Incidentally, hundreds of people have been killed since the start of fighting between the Sudanese armed forces SAF and paramilitary forces RSF on April 15. In this fight, the capital Khartoum and the surrounding residential areas have become a battlefield.
