Indictment against Donald Trump in the United States
Charges have been filed in the United States against former US President Donald Trump. A porn star named Stormy Daniels was indicted in a Manhattan grand jury on Thursday (March 30) local time for allegedly paying her to keep her mouth shut.
Donald Trump is the first former US president to face criminal charges. Reuters reported this information in a report on Friday (March 31).
According to reports, the charges against Trump were formed after an investigation led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg; And that too at a time when this Republican leader is seeking nomination to compete in the 2024 US presidential election.
Reuters says the specific allegations against Trump are not yet known, as the allegations remain confidential. US news outlet CNN reported that Trump faces more than 30 counts of business fraud.
Trump, however, says that he is "completely innocent". At the same time, he indicated not to withdraw from the presidential election contest. Trump also accused Democrat Bragg of trying to ruin his chances of winning re-election.
The former US president said in a statement, "This is the highest level of political oppression and election interference in history." He claims that there has never been any political persecution at this level before and no interference in election work. Although Trump has never given any evidence or arguments in his favor.
Shortly thereafter, Trump appealed to his supporters to pay for his legal defense. Trump has already raised more than $2 million, according to his campaign. Earlier, on March 18, Trump made a false prediction that he would be arrested four days later.
According to the press, detailed information about what exactly has been charged against Trump is not yet available. However, it is known that this case will go under the jurisdiction of a US judge very soon and after that the detailed information will be released.
In the meantime, however, Trump will have to go to the Manhattan court several times to do various official work and submit evidence. Basically at that time Trump will have to go to Manhattan for fingerprinting and other procedures.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said prosecutors had contacted Trump's legal team to arrange the surrender. A court official said that Trump will surrender next Tuesday.
Trump's lawyers, Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina, said they would "vigorously fight" the allegations. However, it is not yet known what Trump thinks about this, whether he will admit the crime at all.
Reuters says Trump could use the case to stoke anger among his core supporters. Other Republican voters, however, may be tiring of Trump's theatrics.
It should be noted that during the 2016 presidential election campaign, Donald Trump allegedly paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep his mouth shut. He was given the money unethically after rumors spread about his relationship with the porn star.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office began prosecuting Trump earlier this year. Daniels' real name is Stephanie Clifford. She says she had a relationship with Trump a decade ago. However, Trump has denied the allegations of this relationship.
Donald Trump was the Republican Party President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. He has already announced that he will compete in the 2024 US presidential election to return to the White House.
