Donald Trump arrested
Former US President Donald Trump, accused in the case of porn star Stormy Daniels, was arrested when he surrendered in court in New York. On Tuesday at noon local time, he appeared in the New York court to surrender with a motorcade.
This is the first time in US history that a former president has been arrested. This day is considered very important in the political history of the country.
It is expected that the former US President will be released on bail today. He is expected to return to Florida later in the evening.
However, he did not speak to the media before entering the court. Earlier, he traveled six miles from Trump Tower to the Manhattan Criminal Court building. Extensive security measures have been taken in that area. Members of the police and intelligence forces have taken a position there.
He waved to supporters as he entered the court building. Protesters and his supporters gathered in the area in support of Trump. The police surrounded them with barricades. Helicopters are circling overhead.
His fingerprint will be taken in court. He will then be informed about the charges in court. Formal charges are expected to be filed against him at the end of the hearing. The court can grant him bail. He is scheduled to fly back to Florida later that evening.
Earlier, a New York grand jury indicted Trump last Thursday. Trump is accused of paying a bribe to silence a porn star before the 2016 presidential election. His party, the Republican Party, believes the case is politically motivated and that Democrats are behind it.
Porn star Stormy Daniels had a physical relationship with the former US president in 2006. It was the year after he married Melania. Before the 2016 election, Trump paid Daniels $130,000 through a lawyer to silence him.
