The firing took place inside the Bathinda army base in Punjab province, India. At least 4 people were killed in the shootings that took place on Wednesday (April 12) morning, NDTV reported.

The South Western Command of the Indian Army said in a statement that the area has been cordoned off and members of the Quick Response Team have been sent there. The team is currently conducting a search operation.

The statement said, "There were reports of firing inside the Bathinda army base on Wednesday morning." The base's Quick Response Team has been activated. The area has been cordoned off and cordoned off. Search operations are underway. Four people were reported killed. Efforts are underway to find out the details.

Another army source said that two days ago, an Insus rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition were lost from inside the base.

Bathinda senior police officer GS Khurana told NDTV that policemen were waiting outside the base. But the army has not yet allowed them to enter there. He also said that he did not think it was a militant or terrorist attack. According to him, it could be an 'internal problem'.

A military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters news agency that some unknown armed men were roaming around the base. They have ammunition with them.

Located at a distance of 6 hours from the capital New Delhi, this base houses common army personnel and their family members. It is basically a residential army base.
