Sweden Shuts Down Embassy In Pakistan

Sweden has closed its embassy in Pakistan indefinitely. In a related statement from the embassy, it is said that the government of Sweden has taken this step due to security concerns.

According to the embassy, this decision was taken due to a recent threat related to the attack. However, Thursday's statement did not give any indication in this regard, nor did any embassy official want to comment on the matter.

The political environment is becoming unstable day by day in Pakistan, which is plagued by economic crisis. The activities of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf and Islamic militant groups have increased, along with the complications of the government and the country's Supreme Court.

Until now, the Supreme Court was the most important bulwark of Pakistan's politics. But the country's parliament recently passed a law to curtail the chief justice's powers, and the situation has since become muddled.

The notice regarding the closure of embassy offices has been uploaded on the website of the Swedish Embassy in Pakistan. It is said there, "Government of Sweden has decided to close its embassy in Pakistan considering the current security situation in Islamabad." From now on, all sections of the embassy, except the immigration wing, will remain closed indefinitely. We have decided not to send any documents to our consul for the time being.”

"We understand that this step is inconvenient for the government of Pakistan, but the safety of the lives of the embassy staff is of utmost importance to us."

The notice also said that the Swedish government would not answer such questions as to when the embassy might be opened.

Many of Pakistan's political analysts believe that the country has taken this step due to the fear of instability due to the recent Koran burning incident in Sweden.
