India is the most populous country in the world after China
India has overtaken China as the most populous country in the world. Such information was obtained from the data published by the United Nations on Wednesday (April 19).
According to the United Nations, now India's population is 142.86 million. On the other hand, China, which has fallen to the second place, has 142.57 million people.
The United Nations has been listing the world's most populous countries since 1950. Meanwhile, this is the first time that India's name has come to the first place in this list of the organization.
China's population fell last year for the first time since 1960. Thousands died of starvation in China that year due to Mao Zedong's suicidal agricultural policies.
Currently, the number of people in the country is decreasing due to various modern problems. On the other hand, the number of elderly people is increasing. The adverse effects of population decline have already begun to hit the country. For this reason, the Chinese government has taken several initiatives to increase the population.
Meanwhile, although the population of India is mentioned by the United Nations, the Indian government does not know exactly how many people live in the country now. Because after 2011 there was no more census in India. A new census is scheduled to be held in 2021, but it has to be postponed due to the Corona epidemic.
