Dubai-bound flight catches fire after taking off from Nepal
The engine of a 'Fly Dubai' flight from Nepal to Dubai caught fire shortly after take off from the airport.
The plane took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal on Monday morning (April 24) with more than 150 passengers on board. But shortly after take off, flames were seen in one of the aircraft's engines. In no time the fire spread.
Media NDTV reported that there were a total of more than 150 passengers, including 50 Nepali passengers.
Eyewitnesses claimed that they saw the aircraft catch fire in the skies over Kathmandu. A video of the incident has already surfaced.
It was initially reported that the aircraft was attempting to make an emergency landing at the airport. Fire engines were also kept ready to prevent any mishap.
However, Nepal's civil aviation regulator said in a statement that the pilot shut down the burning engine for some time and decided to proceed to the destination with the help of another engine.
