Biden, Yoon warn North Korea of nuclear response to any attack
The tension on the Korean peninsula seems to be increasing day by day. In recent months, North Korea has launched a series of missile launches, including intercontinental ballistic missiles. In response, South Korea conducted large-scale military exercises with the United States.
As a result, the two Koreas are increasing the risk of getting involved in war again. Along with this, there is also the fear of North Korea using nuclear weapons. And in this situation, US President Joe Biden has warned North Korea. He said a nuclear attack would oust North Korea's leadership.
Biden issued this warning after a meeting with South Korean President Eun Suk Yeol. AFP reported this information in a report on Thursday (April 27).
President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol have warned that if Pyongyang uses its own arsenal, the country will face a nuclear response and "end" the North Korean leadership regime, the report said.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol went to Washington on a state visit last Tuesday. They spoke at a joint press conference held on the South Lawn of the White House, the residence of the US President, after the meeting with Joe Biden on Wednesday.
Speaking at the White House, the two leaders said the US security shield was being strengthened for South Korea in the face of aggressive missile tests by nuclear-armed North Korea.
At the same time, both leaders made it clear that if the communist and dictatorial regime of North Korea, isolated from the rest of the world, attacks South Korea or the United States, the response will be devastating.
In a joint press conference with Yun, President Biden told reporters, "If North Korea launches any kind of nuclear attack against the United States or its allies ... such an action will bring an end to any regime there."
On the other hand, President Yun said, "His priority is to preserve peace through overwhelming force superiority." He said, "Washington and Seoul have agreed to respond quickly, overwhelmingly and devastatingly using the full force of the alliance, including US nuclear weapons, in the event of a North Korean nuclear attack."
In addition, South Korea has agreed not to pursue its own nuclear weapons program in exchange for a greater decision-making role in U.S. planning should North Korea launch a nuclear attack.
According to media reports, US President Joe Biden invited South Korea's president to the White House for a state visit to celebrate the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries, and the two leaders discussed the future of the two allied states during the meeting held there.
North Korea has conducted increasingly rapid intercontinental and ballistic missile tests in recent years. Of these, this East Asian country has launched more than 60 missiles last year alone.
It should be noted that North Korea is repeatedly conducting missile and other tests in defiance of UN sanctions. And so many questions have arisen as to how an economically distressed country like them continues to conduct such tests one after another.
However, several countries including the United States have imposed strict sanctions on North Korea for one after another nuclear weapons tests.
