Poet Iqbal Hasan no more
Syed Waliullah literature award winning poet Iqbal Hasan no more. He breathed his last at Toronto's Michael Garron Hospital on Wednesday (April 12) at 5:30 p.m. local time.
He was 73 years old at the time of his death. Survived by wife and only daughter. He was ill for a long time.
Weekly Bangla Mail Editor Shahidul Islam Mintu told Ittefaq that his Namaz and Janaza will be held on Thursday, April 13 at the Nugget Mosque at 1:35 PM after Zohar. Burial will follow at the Toronto Muslim Cemetery in Richmond Hill.
Seventies poet Iqbal Hasan was born on 4 December 1952 in a foreign missionary hospital in Barisal. He was associated with daily Ittefa as a journalist for a long time and worked as literary editor of Purvani.
Ibkal Hasan has been living in Toronto, Canada for decades after living first in Germany, then in the United States. The number of books published by him is about fifty. Notable among them are 'Extraordinary Gap', Jochna's Painting, 'House without Cupboard', 'Towards a Star', 'Distant People Near People', 'A few Golden Fishes in Light and Darkness', 'Eyes Float in Water', 'Sukhlal's Dream'. And the third character', and 'some words inside the words' etc.
Iqbal Hasan's death has cast a shadow of mourning among Bengali writers at home and abroad.
