Myanmar not diligent despite talking repatriation: Momen

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Saturday reproached Myanmar for not showing due diligence about taking its displaced nationals back despite the repatriation pledge of Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh.

"Myanmar has promised to take back their Rohingya population, but has not taken the initiative to implement it, the minister complained at a seminar on Rohingya repatriation in the city on Saturday.

Noting Bangladesh's all-out effort to solve the enduring issue, he said, "It is unfortunate that the repatriation has not begun even after Bangladesh knocked on the door of the International Court of Justice.

"Although several countries showed interest in taking Rohingya people, the number is insignificant," he said, lamenting that the repatriation pledge at the field level is yet to be realised.

Momen, at the time, warned that security of the region will be in jeopardy if the Rohingya crisis continues.
