International Day of Forests is today

International Day of Forests is Tuesday (March 21). This year's theme of the day is 'Healthy body, healthy mind, if there is a prosperous forest'.

On the occasion of Forest Day, a discussion meeting and check distribution ceremony among the beneficiaries of social forestry has been organized at the forest building in Agargaon of the capital.

Basically, the day is celebrated to make people understand the importance of trees. This includes plantation. According to Global Forest Watch, about one-third of the world is forested. A forest has 50 thousand to 1 lakh trees per square kilometer. A person needs 740 kg of oxygen a year to breathe. An average tree gives up to 100 kg of oxygen per year. As a result, the forest areas are responsible for the survival of the people and the balance of the earth.

Keeping this in mind, the World Forestry Day was established in 1971 at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture. International Day of Forests was first established on 28 November 2012 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to raise public awareness of the importance of trees. The United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate the day on March 21 every year by combining the two international commemorations World Day of Forests and International Day of Forests.
