US delegation arrives in Dhaka

A delegation led by US State Department Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Jaya arrived in Dhaka on a four-day visit. The visit of the high-ranking US delegation, months before national elections, is being watched seriously.

On Tuesday (July 11) evening from Delhi they went to Dhaka on Hazrat Shahjalal road. Arrived at the international airport. Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen welcomed them at the airport. US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas was present at that time.

The delegation also includes US Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asia Donald Lew and USAID Asia Bureau Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur.

After the announcement of the new US visa policy for Bangladesh, this time a senior representative from the US visited Dhaka. The delegation had earlier completed a three-day visit to Delhi.

During the visit, they will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman. Besides, they will also talk to representatives of civil society.

According to diplomatic sources, Uzra Zeya will discuss free and fair elections, labor rights, human rights, human trafficking and the Rohingya crisis, freedom of expression and protection of minority rights with the government as well as civil society representatives next Thursday. On the second day of his visit, he will visit the Rohingya refugee camp on Wednesday

Ahead of the national elections, an unstable situation has been created in politics. BNP is adamant in demanding elections under a non-partisan government. The ruling party Awami League says the election will be held according to the constitution. In this situation, the direct and indirect interference of foreigners in domestic politics has increased. Last Saturday, a European Union delegation arrived in Bangladesh, who will stay for 16 days to observe the election situation.
