Prime Minister mourns the death of Zafrullah Chowdhury
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of brave freedom fighter and founder of Gonoshasthya Kendra Zafrullah Chowdhury.
In a condolence message on Wednesday (April 12), the Prime Minister prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.
Earlier, Zafarullah breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital on Tuesday night. This 82-year-old freedom fighter had been suffering from kidney problems for a long time as well as various complications related to old age. He was taken on life support last Monday.
Zafrullah was born on December 27, 1941 in Raujan of Chittagong district. He is the eldest among 10 children of his parents. Matriculation from Navkumar School, Bakshibazar, Dhaka and Intermediate from Dhaka College.
After that he passed MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1964 and FRCS primary examination from Royal College of Surgeons, Billet in 1967.
He returned to India from London without completing the final phase when the Bangladesh War of Independence broke out while studying FRCS at the Royal College of Surgeons, Billet. Dr. came back. Together with MA Mobin, he established and managed the 480-bed Bangladesh Field Hospital there.
She imparted basic health knowledge to many women in that short time, with which they served patients. His unprecedented service was later published in the world-renowned journal paper Lancet.
He received the Freedom Award in 1977 in recognition of his unique contribution to population control.
In addition, he received Ramon Magsaysay (1985) from the Philippines and Right Livelihood (1992) known as an alternative Nobel from Sweden, 'International Health Hero' (2002) from the University of Berkeley in the United States and an honorary doctorate from Canada for his service to humanity.
