Happy Buddha Purnima 2023
Buddha devotees will celebrate the day as Buddha Purnima, commemorating the appearance, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha, the preacher of the non-violent message of 'May all beings in the world be happy'. The Buddhist community of the country will celebrate their main religious festival Buddha Purnima in Sambar.
On the occasion of the auspicious Buddha Purnima on Thursday (May 4), Buddha pujas, lamp lighting, peace processions, religious discussions, morning ferries, congregational prayers, discussion meetings and Buddha pujas will be held in Buddhist monasteries across the country including the capital. Also, special prayers have been organized for all-round peace and well-being of mankind.
On the occasion of the day, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.
Baisakhi Purnima is the main religious festival of the Buddhist community, which is intertwined with the three memories of Gautama Buddha's auspicious birth, enlightenment and nirvana. It is known as Buddha Purnima to Buddhists all over the world.
According to Buddhism, Mahamati Gautama Buddha appeared on this day two and a half thousand years ago. As his birth, Bodhilav and Mahaprayana took place on the day of Vaishakhi Purnima, it (Baishakhi Purnima) is given another name as 'Buddha Purnima'.
