Voting in Gazipur city polls ends
The voting in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections has ended in a fair and peaceful manner. Earlier, the voting began at 8am and ended at 4pm using Electronic Voting Machines at all centres.
The voters in some polling stations alleged problems in EVMs but no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. Eight candidates are contesting for the mayoral post and there are 248 councillor and 79 female councilor candidates.
A total of 11,79,476 voters are expected to exercise their franchise. Of them, 5,92,762 are male, 5,86,696 female and 18 are transgender. The voting is being held using the electronic voting machine (EVM) at 480 polling centers in the GCC area. Of them, some 351 polling centers are risk-prone and other 129 are general.
A total of 30 teams led by the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), 13 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 19 striking police force teams and fifty-seven mobile teams have been deployed at the GCC areas to control untoward situation.
