Passport Index: Bangladesh`s position improves
Bangladesh has improved in the strong passport index of Hanley and Partners, a UK-based consultancy firm.
The firm released the new index on Tuesday (July 18). And it shows that Bangladesh is at the 96th place in the list. Earlier, Bangladesh was ranked 101 in the index published on January 10. This means that the 'Green Passport' has improved by five steps in the Strong Passport Index during this period.
The index is based on how many countries a passport holder of a particular country can travel to without a visa. According to the latest index, Bangladeshi passport holders can travel to 40 countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival.
Japan has been at the 'top' of strong passports for the last 5 years in Hanley & Partners' index. However, in the newly released index, Singapore has overtaken Japan to the top. Passport holders of this country can visit 192 countries without a visa. On the other hand, Japan, which was at the top, dropped to the third place. Currently, Japanese people can travel to 189 countries without a visa.
Asian countries dominated the strong passport index. But Europe has improved in the latest index. European countries Germany, Italy and Spain came second. At present, the citizens of these three countries have the opportunity to visit 190 countries without a visa.
