‘Will continue movement for peace till election’

Leaders of the ruling Awami League vowed to continue their movement for peace until the next national elections. They made the announcement today during their "peace rally" organised by Awami League's three associate bodies -- Jubo League, Chhatra League, and Swechchhasebak League -- at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque in the capital on Friday afternoon.

While addressing the rally, AL Joint General Secretary Bahauddin Nasim said, "BNP wants to destroy the peace of the people of the country by creating an unstable environment. Today, I want to say to those peace-destroying terrorists, BNP-Jamaat, 'look, lakhs of leaders and workers of our 3 affiliated organisations have appeared here'."

Addressing the BNP, he said, "To those who want to kill democracy and start a dictatorship, those who want to seize power in crooked ways, we want to say that we -- Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechchhasebak League -- have united to fight against your anarchy, misdeeds and destructive politics."

Nasim also said, "Our movement for peace will continue till the upcoming 12th national elections."

Speaking at the programme, AL Presidium Member Abdur Rahman said BNP-Jamaat wants to come to power through the back door by creating anarchy in the country.

He said Bangladesh Awami League leaders and workers are on alert and no evil force will be allowed to come to power in an undemocratic manner.

Meanwhile, the rally venue has been filled to the brim with AL men.

The rally is going on at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque in the capital. As there was no space at the rally ground, activists occupied the entire road from Gulistan's Shaheed Matiur Park to GPO.

Besides, many leaders and activists are standing on the streets around the Secretariat, National Press Club, Shikkha Bhaban, Curzon Hall, Nagar Bhaban, Bangabandhu Avenue, Fulbaria, Purana Paltan, and Bangabandhu National Stadium.
