Police release Gayeshwar Chandra Roy
Detective Police have released BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from custody following his detention during a clash between law enforcers and party members in the capital’s Dholaikhal on Saturday afternoon.
He was taken to the party’s Nayapaltan central office by police around 3:30pm. BNP leader said her head was fractured during the clash. He was beaten mercilessly. Police detained and took him to Rajarbagh Police Hospital and from there he was brought to DB office.
Earlier in the day, the leaders and activists of BNP locked into a clash with police at Dholaikhal intersection after they started their sit-in programme there.
Police fired tear gas at the BNP men to foil their programme. In reply, the party activists hurled brick-chips to the law enforcers.
Later, police detained Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from there around 12pm.
BNP on Friday announced that it will hold sit-in programmes at all entry points of Dhaka from 11am to 4pm today.
DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq earlier said BNP and Awami League were not allowed to hold sit-in programmes in the capital on Saturday.
