Prime Minister gave the Independence Awards
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina awarded the country's highest civilian honor Independence Award-2023 to 9 prominent individuals and an institution.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the award to the winners in a ceremony held at the capital's Osmani Smriti Auditorium on Thursday (March 23) morning. This medal is in recognition of the glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level.
Four people have received freedom award for their special contribution in freedom and liberation war. They are - brave freedom fighter Colonel (retd.) Samsul Alam, late Lt. AG Mohammad Khurshid, Shahid Khawaja Nizamuddin Bhuiyan and Awami League presidium member and former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury (Maya) Bir Bikram.
Apart from this, the late Dr. Muhammad Moinuddin Ahmed (Salim Al Din), Holy Mohan Dey in culture, ASM Rakibul Hasan in sports, Begum Nadira Jahan (Surma Zahid) in research and training and Dr. Received Ferdowsi Qadri Award. And the organization nominated for the award is the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense.
The government has been giving this award every year on the eve of Independence Day since 1977. In case of Independence Award, the awardee is given Tk 5 lakh, 50 gram gold medal of 18 carat quality, a replica of the medal and a certificate of appreciation.
