Polls to 5 city corporations to be held from May 25 to June 21
The election commission has announced the schedule of 5 city corporation elections. Polling will be held in Gazipur City Corporation on May 25, Khulna and Barisal on June 12 and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 21.
This decision was taken at the Election Commission meeting on Monday. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal presided over the meeting. Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana, Md. Alamgir and Md. Anishur Rahman.
At the end of the meeting, Election Commission Secretary. Jahangir Alam told the media that the Election Commission has finalized the polling dates for 5 cities. Voting in these elections will be done through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and each center will have CCTV cameras. The officers will inform the commission through the tab about the updated information of polling.
He also said that polling will continue continuously from 8 am to 4 pm. EC's own officers will act as returning officers in all city elections. Elections of Gazipur, Rajshahi, Barisal, Sylhet and Khulna City Corporation will be completed before the 12th National Assembly elections.
Submission, selection and withdrawal of nomination papers
According to the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the Gazipur City Corporation elections is April 27, the nomination papers can be withdrawn between April 30 and May 8.
Last date for submission of nomination papers in Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections is 16 May, nomination papers can be withdrawn between 18 May and 25 May.
Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporation elections can be submitted till May 23, nomination papers can be withdrawn between May 25 and June 1.
