Everyone pays tribute to Zafrullah Chowdhury`s dead body

The founder of Gonoshathya Kendra, freedom fighter Dr. People from all walks of life are paying their last respects to Zafrullah Chowdhury.

His body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 10 am on Thursday for people from all walks of life to pay their respects After paying respects, he will be given a state guard of honour.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AK Azad Chowdhury was the first to pay his respects after taking the body of Zafrullah Chowdhury to the Central Shaheed Minar. Later, a delegation led by the leaders of the Revolutionary Communist League, Rashed Khan Menon, teachers of Dhaka and Jagannath University, doctors, politicians, journalists and people from various professions paid tribute.

Zafrullah Chowdhury was suffering from kidney complications for many years. Recently his aging complications worsened. He was taken on life support on Monday. He died on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.

Zafrullah Chowdhury was born on December 27, 1941 in Koypara village of Raujan upazila of Chittagong district. His father Humayon Morshed Chowdhury was a police officer and mother Hashina Begum Chowdhury was a housewife. Zafrullah Chowdhury was the eldest among the 10 children of his parents. In 1971, Zafrullah Chowdhury returned home from the United Kingdom and took part in the liberation war with guerilla training in Agartala, India. He established and managed the Bangladesh Field Hospital.

After the liberation war, he wanted to build an institution in the name of that hospital. After discussing with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the name of Gonoshasthaya Kendra was decided.

Apart from the hospital, Zafrullah Chowdhury also built a drug manufacturing company. In 1982, he was also instrumental in formulating the country's first drug policy.
