Elections in 5 cities: Awami League selected candidate
Awami League has finalized party candidates for five city corporation elections. Talukdar Abdul Khalek for Khulna City Corporation, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury in Sylhet, Khairuzzaman Liton in Rajshahi, Abul Khair Abdullah aka Khokon Serniabat in Barishal and Awami League candidate Azmat Ullah Khan in Gazipur City Corporation elections.
They were finalized at Awami League's Local Government and People's Representative Nomination Board meeting on Saturday (April 15) afternoon. Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the party and member of the nomination board, confirmed this information to the media.
Earlier, the meeting started at 11 am at Ganabhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Amir Hossain Amu, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, Abul Hasanat Abdullah, Kazi Zafar Uliah, Dr. were also present at the meeting. Md. Abdur Razzak, Lieut. Colonel (Retd.) Muhammad Farooq Khan, Md. Rashidul Alam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr. Dipu Moni, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nashim and Dr. Abdus Sobhan Rose.
According to the announcement of the Election Commission, Gazipur City Corporation elections will be held on May 25. Khulna and Barisal City Corporation will vote on June 12 and Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporation on June 21. These votes will be in Electronic Voting Machine-EVM.
Before this, Awami League sold party nomination forms for the election of mayors of five city corporations and five municipalities and chairman of three upazila parishads from April 9 to 5 pm on Wednesday.
