35 injured as Sonar Bangla Express hits freight train in Comilla
Seven carriages derailed after the Sonar Bangla Express passenger train collided with a freight train standing at Comilla. 15 people of the passenger train were injured.
The accident took place at Hasanpur railway station in Nangalkot upazila of the district on Sunday (April 16) around 7 pm. The injured were rescued and taken to different hospitals. However, their identities were not immediately available.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station Jasim Uddin Khandkar confirmed the matter.
He said that a freight train from Chittagong to Dhaka was waiting at Hasanpur railway station around 7 pm on Sunday. At this time, a passenger train named Sonar Bangla Express hit the freight train. Seven coaches of the Sonar Bangla Express derailed. About 15 passengers of the passenger train were injured in the incident. At present train movement is stopped on Dhaka-Chittagong line. A relief train has left for the spot from Akhaura.
