Historic Mujibnagar Day today

Today is April 17. Historic Mujibnagar Day. An unforgettable day in the long history of Bangladesh's freedom struggle. On this day in 1971, the first government of independent-sovereign Bangladesh was officially sworn in at Amrakanan in Baidyanathala, then Meherpur subdivision of Kushtia district. The Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh made by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on April 10, 1971 was officially read on this occasion. From this day the place came to be known as Mujibnagar.

The independent-sovereign government of Bangladesh was formed with the aim of achieving independence on the path announced and directed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by conducting the independence war of Bangladesh and expelling the invading forces of Pakistan from the homeland. The ruling party Awami League has been holding various programs on the occasion of this day. This time also the party has taken various programs.

After the 1970 general elections, the ruling class of Pakistan refused to hand over power to elected representatives. Illegally adjourned the session of the National Assembly indefinitely. Later, on 25th March 1971, the Pakistani army massacred the unarmed Bengalis. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman officially announced the independence of Bangladesh through wireless in the early hours of March 26. In continuation of that, on April 10, the elected representatives of the Awami League met in a special session in the National Assembly elected in the free area of the border area of Meherpur and formed the government of the independent-sovereign People's Republic of Bangladesh.

In this session, the declaration of independence of Bangladesh was approved and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of seven and a half million people of Bangladesh, was formed as the president, and Syed Nazrul Islam, the vice president who served as the acting president in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's absence, and Tajuddin Ahmad as the prime minister. Meherpur became the temporary capital of the independent sovereign Bangladesh government. After the formalities of the Mujibnagar government were over, Meherpur was occupied by the Pakistan Air Force with bombing and raids within two hours. As a result, the Provisional Government was forced to take refuge in India and continue to operate from there. After nine months of armed struggle, the final victory was achieved on 16 December 1971 and independent sovereign Bangladesh was established.

On that day, the people of the country were called upon to fight to the death for freedom against the invading forces of Pakistan through their bravery, courage and revolutionary activities. The newly formed government played a very important role in creating international public opinion for the newly independent Bangladesh and in running the government during the liberation war. Under the competent leadership and direction of this government, the war of liberation moved towards a successful conclusion at the earliest. As a result of the formation of this government, the people of the world extended their hands of support and cooperation to the armed struggle of Bengalis for freedom. Finally, the final victory was achieved on December 16, 1971, in return for the blood of 3 million martyrs and the honor of 2 million mothers and sisters. The importance and contribution of Mujibnagar government will be remembered forever in the history of liberation war. Awami League and its affiliated organizations remember and celebrate this historic memory-laden day with due dignity and importance as always with all those who believe in the spirit of freedom.

Awami League program

Awami League has announced a detailed program on the occasion of the historic Mujibnagar Day. The historic Mujibnagar Day program on Monday (April 17) includes hoisting of national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhavan, central and all district Awami League offices in the country at 6 am. Awami League paid homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhavan premises at 32 Dhanmondi at 7 am.

Mujibnagar program also includes hoisting of national and party flags at 6 am. Wreath laying at the memorial at 10 am. Mujibnagar Day public meeting will be held at 11 am. Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah will attend the public meeting as the chief guest. A member of the Awami League presidium will be present as a special guest. H.
