The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has given an explanation for the spread of news that 'state of emergency may be declared' due to the prevailing temperature in the country. The matter was explained in a notification sent by the ministry on Sunday (April 16) night.
It is said that a 'temperature emergency' may be issued in the country due to record temperature in most districts including Dhaka. Some online news portals have published news citing the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. This has attracted the attention of the Ministry and the Minister. The position of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has been clarified for everyone's information as there is scope for confusion in this matter.
According to the notification, the fact is that the Meteorological Department publishes the daily information of the country's weather in the form of a regular notification for public information. If there is any public health issue due to extreme weather, the Ministry of Health gives necessary advice to the people. The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change deals with long-term climate change.
When a representative of an online news portal asked the Environment Minister about issuing a 'temperature emergency', he said that no decision has been taken yet to issue a weather emergency. If it rains, this fever will reduce. Whether the government will take such a decision is a matter of future.
The statement of the ministry is that the global temperature increase is mainly responsible for the heat wave that is currently raging in the country. Various activities are going on worldwide under the United Nations (UNFCCC) to prevent the increase in global temperature. The Bangladesh government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken several initiatives to prevent climate change. Notable among which are submission of updated Nationally Determined Contribution, preparation of National Adaptation Plan, preparation of Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan and implementation of program through Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund. A concerted effort by everyone in the world can prevent this temperature rise.
