Eid vacation: 1.2 million people left Dhaka

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that 12 lakh 28 thousand 278 SIM users left Dhaka on Tuesday (April 18) to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

On Wednesday (April 19) at noon, he announced this information on the social media Facebook page. However, this calculation is based on the average number of SIMs per person. No one under the age of 18 is included in this calculation.

The minister posted the statistics based on the SIM users of four operators - Grameenphone Limited, Robi Aziata Limited, Banglalink Digital Communications and Teletalk Bangladesh Limited.

It can be seen that on Tuesday a total of 3 lakh 2 thousand 284 users of Robi, 3 lakh 34 thousand 295 of Grameenphone, 5.5 lakh 73 thousand 509 of Banglalink and 18 thousand 190 of Teletalk SIM users left Dhaka.

However, those concerned think that the number of people leaving Dhaka will be more than the number of mobile users. Because most of them left Dhaka with their families. Not everyone in a family uses a mobile, especially the younger ones. Besides, many have sent their families home a week ago. There are many people who use multiple SIMs.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims in the country, will be celebrated next Saturday or Sunday (April 22 or 23), depending on the sighting of the moon. Wednesday is the official holiday of Holy Shabbat. A general holiday has been declared on April 20 under the executive powers of the Prime Minister. So the last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr was Tuesday. People are slowly going to village home as they get 5 consecutive days off. The pressure to go home increased from Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
