BCB confirms itinerary for home series against Afghanistan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board Wednesday confirmed the itinerary for the home series in which Bangladesh will take on tourists Afghanistan in one Test match, three one-day internationals and two Twenty20s.

BCB and Afghanistan Cricket Board upon mutual discussion scrapped one Test and a T20I from the initial itinerary.

Hosts Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in two phases. The Afghans are scheduled to reach Dhaka on June 10 and feature in the only Test in Mirpur from June 14-18.

There will be a break to the series for Eid-ul-Azha during which Afghanistan will travel to India to contest three ODIs against the hosts.

Afghanistan will return to Bangladesh on July 1 to complete the series and in this phase play three ODIs scheduled to be held in Chittagong on July 5, 8 and 11 respectively.

Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan will then travel to Sylhet to fight it out in the two T20Is on July 14 and 16 respectively.  Members of the Bangladesh team returned to Dhaka Tuesday following a 2-0 ODI series win against Ireland in their last World Cup Super League series.

A few members of the team including captain Tamim Iqbal, Shakib al Hasan, Liton Das and others stayed back in England for some leisure time. Bangladesh finished the Super League cycle with 15 wins in 24 matches.  They lost eight while one game was washed out. With the result, Bangladesh are at No 3 in the Super League standings with 155 points, the same number of points as second-placed England.

England are ahead of the Tigers by virtue of net run-rate. The Bangladesh cricketers following a two-week break will regroup in the first week of June to prepare for the Afghanistan series.
