Tamim leaving the captaincy

Parshui held a pre-series press conference as captain. After the loss in the first ODI yesterday, Tawhid Hridoy, the team's best performer, naturally came to the press conference. And today there is no practice of the Bangladesh team. No one from the party is supposed to come in front of the media.

But today is going to be a curious press conference in Chittagong! And that was called by ODI captain Tamim Iqbal himself. That too not through the BCB or the team, but through personal initiative.

Tamim sent news to the journalists who came to cover the Afghanistan series in Chittagong late yesterday, today at 12 noon he will inform the media about some issues. When asked about the matter, he told this reporter, "Let me tell you tomorrow (today). Please don't ask for anything else today (yesterday).'

It is natural that the call of such a mysterious press conference will spread rumors. What will Tamim say at the press conference? Are you going to inform any important decisions? Not only for calling a sudden press conference, but the events of the last few days about him are fueling such thoughts. As much as was known about last night's investigation, there was a glimpse of something big.

There is a strong possibility that Tamim will announce his retirement from the captaincy of the ODI team today at the press conference. Multiple sources close to Tamim suggest so. Some people's speculations have gone to this stage that Tamim may announce his retirement from international cricket! And if none of this is the case, then the curiosity about the question 'what would you say Tamim' is more extreme.

Earlier, on July 16, 2022, Tamim suddenly announced his decision to quit T20 cricket on social media. Since then, this left-handed opener, who made his debut in international cricket in 2007, has been playing only Tests and ODIs. This time from ODI? Or something bigger!

As mentioned earlier, the events of the last few days are inciting such unexpected thoughts about Tamim. He did not play this year's only Test against Afghanistan in Mirpur due to the return of an old back injury. But there was hope that he would recover before the ODI series. Later, the team for the three-match ODI series was announced with Tamim as the captain.

But before the first one-dayer against Afghanistan at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium tomorrow, Tamim's back pain came into the discussion again. Tamim himself gave that discussion in the pre-series press conference the day before yesterday. Said, he is not fully fit yet. However, he will play the first one-dayer and try to understand his fitness level.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan reacted strongly to this statement of Tamim in the media. He told a Bengali daily, "This is not a neighborhood-mahalla match anymore." An international match. On the eve of such a series, the captain says that he is not fit. But he will play, he will try to understand his fitness by playing. This cannot be a professional behavior!'

The president said that the coach was also angry with Tamim's statement. "Tamim really needs to make it clear what he wants. At what stage is he? - said Nazmul Hasan. It should be noted here that there have been negative discussions about Tamim's injury at various times.

Sources said, during yesterday's match, there was a flow of negative discussions about Tamim's injury and fitness in the president's box of Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Tamim was advised to rest by the team management before the first ODI after saying he was not fully fit. However, Tamim played in the first ODI yesterday without any problem.

According to a source, a section of the BCB, which is somewhat irritated by the repeated discussions about Tamim's fitness, feels that such an unstable condition of the captain ahead of the World Cup may not be good for the team. The ODI World Cup in India in October-November is preceded by the Asia Cup and a home ODI series against New Zealand. In such a situation, there are two types of discussions on the board whether Tamim can be kept as ODI captain or not. Many people are also saying the name of the possible new captain - Shakib Al Hasan.

An unnamed BCB director, however, dismissed all the negative talk about Tamim as rumours. This morning on the phone, he said, 'Tamim is the captain of the ODI team until the World Cup, this decision is still well maintained. We are not considering alternatives. Everything else you hear is rumours.

But if BCB wants Tamim as the captain, whether Tamim himself wants to remain in this position or not, that is also a question. Especially, after the BCB president's recent statement. However, before the start of the match tomorrow, there was no talk about this in the party meeting with the BCB president for ten minutes. Captain Tamim was also there, but did not discuss the recent controversy with Nazmul Hasan or the captaincy issue.

Still, if Tamim really wants to quit the captaincy today or wants to take a bigger decision, then the BCB will take the initiative to change his decision, the director said, "We heard from outside that he is going to hold a press conference. He himself has not told us anything yet. Talk to Tamim first and find out what he really wants to say.

A few more hours are left for the press conference to be held today at 12 noon. If Tamim wants to take a big decision, it remains to be seen whether he sticks to it after the board's intervention. However, since coming to Chittagong, Chittagong's son Tamim is a bit depressed. Spending more time with family members, which was never seen before.
