The new national coach, Roberto Martínez, arrived in Portugal at the beginning of January and led the team's first training session on Monday. But who is Martinez and what did he do before arriving in our country?

Spaniard Roberto Martínez arrives at the position of national football coach with a contract valid until 2026, after six years trying to give Belgium a title, in a professional and personal life rooted in the United Kingdom.

The 49-year-old coach was chosen to succeed Fernando Santos, who left the Portuguese national team after Portugal's defeat against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar.

Martínez had the same fate in the Belgian national team after the poor performance of the “red devils”, who did not qualify for the round of 16, also counting on a defeat against the Moroccan national team.

However, the relationship between the former Spanish player and the Belgian national team had its 'peak' in 2018, when they won third place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Belgium only “fell” in the semi-finals, precisely against France, who would go on to win the World Cup.
