Chelsea coach Potter lost his job

Graham Potter's job did not last even seven months. Chelsea fired him from the position of coach.

Chelsea lost 2-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday. It was the 11th loss in 31 games under Potter. Chelsea also dropped to number 11 in the Premier League points table. A day later, the club authorities informed him of his dismissal.

Bruno Salter will serve as Chelsea's acting head coach for the time being. He came from Brighton as Potter's assistant.

Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel and appointed Potter in the second week of September. The contract is for five years. Chelsea also offered a £2.1 million release clause to get Potter out of Brighton. Even if Chelsea did not finish in the top four in the league in the first season, it was suggested that the job would remain.

Chelsea have expressed their disappointment by sacking the coach before the completion of seven months. In a press release thanking Potter, Chelsea wrote, "We have the highest respect for Graham Potter as a coach and as a person. Given the professionalism and integrity he has always maintained, we are disappointed in the current outcome. We have 10 Premier League matches and the Champions League quarter-finals. We want to end the season well by applying our best efforts and responsibility in every match.

Chelsea's opponent in the last eight of the Champions League is the current champion Real Madrid.

A club source told ESPN that the decision to fire Potter was made by Chelsea's two sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. The Board of Directors has agreed to it. After Saturday's loss to Aston Villa, he visited the club's training center on Sunday and spoke directly with Potter about the decision.

Tuchel, who was sacked before Potter was replaced, took over as Bayern Munich coach a few days ago.
