Shakib ruled out of third Ireland ODI with finger injury
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan will miss Sunday's third and final one-day international against Ireland in Chelmsford after hurting his right index finger while fielding in the second match a couple of days ago.
Shakib suffered the injury while attempting the catch of George Dockrell off the bowling of Mehedi Hasan Miraz in the 43rd over of Ireland's innings.
After dropping the relatively easy opportunity at cover, Shakib immediately looked in pain.He later came out to bat at No 4 and scored 26 runs off 27 deliveries, featuring five fours.
National team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said, “Shakib hurt the tip of his right index finger while attempting a catch in the second ODI. An X-ray confirmed a fracture on the base of the index finger. Such injuries usually take around six weeks to heal. Unfortunately, this means he is not available for the last match against Ireland.”
Shakib now faces a race against time to be fit for the upcoming home series against Afghanistan which begins with a solitary Test match.
The one-off Test will be followed by three ODIs and two Twenty20 internationals at a later date.
