Probably played my last match in England : Tamim
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal said the just-concluded series against Ireland is probably his last international cricket outing on England soil.
Bangladesh last Sunday secured a 2-0 one-day international series win against Ireland following a nail-biting five-run victory in the third and final game in Chelmsford.
Opening batter Tamim's statement was driven from the fact that there is no series against, or in England in the upcoming Future Tours Program for Bangladesh in the coming years.
To add to that, Tamim along with other senior members of the side in the form of Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah only have a few years of international cricket left in them.
“The [Bangladesh] supporters here [in England] has always been special to us. I am not sure if I will be able to play in England again as we do not play them often on their soil. We are not touring England in next three or four years. So in that regard I think this was my last [international] match here and I have enjoyed it a lot to be honest,” said Tamim to the media following the series win against Ireland.
The Chelmsford venue, with a capacity of 6,500, was packed with Bangladesh supporters as the Tigers defended 274 runs courtesy Mustafizur Rahman's welcoming four-wicket haul, while young Hasan Mahmud kept a cool head, defending nine runs in the final over of the game.
Tamim finished the series on a high, scoring his first half-century in 10 ODIs. The southpaw made 69 off 82 to guide Bangladesh to a competitive total. Tamim has a fine record in England where the left-hander garnered 680 runs in 18 ODIs at an average of 37.77 with four fifties and a hundred.
He had scored two centuries in England in the longest format where Tamim's famous hundred at Lord's in 2010 is still rated one of the finest innings by a Bangladeshi in England.
