Bangladesh women’s team announced for Asian Games
Bangladesh Football Federation on Tuesday announced the 22-member women’s squad for the 19th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 20 to October 8.
Japan-born Bangladeshi descent forward Matsushima Sumaya, who made her debut for the national side on July 13, got her place in the squad that will represent Bangladesh in the Games women’s football for the first time.
The 22-year-old, Sumaya, became the first Bangladeshi descent overseas female footballer to make an international debut for the country when Bangladesh played the first match of the recently concluded two-match FIFA friendly series at home against Nepal.
Apart from Sumaya, four other players - Afida Khandakar, Shaheda Akther Ripa, Surma Jannat, and Swarna Rani Mondal – who also made their debuts during Bangladesh’s first match against Nepal, also got calls for Asian Games.
Though women’s football has been included in the Asian Games since 1990, the Bangladesh women’s team are going to take part in the event for the first time.
Squad
Goalkeepers: Rupna Chakma, Sathi Biswas, Swarna Rani Mandal.
Defenders: Afida Khandakar, Anai Mogini, Masura Parvin, Sheuli Azim, Shamsunnahar, Nilufa Yesmin Nila, Surma Jannat.
Midfielders: Ritu Porna Chakma, Shamsunnahar(Jr), Monika Chakma, Sapna Rani, Maria Manda.
Forwards: Sabina Khatun, Sanjida Akhter, Krishna Rani Sarkar, Marzia Akter, Tohura Khatun, Shaheda Akther Ripa, Matsushima Sumaya.
