Chennai lost by 3 runs against Rajasthan Royals
Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first captain in franchise cricket history to complete a double century in match play yesterday. Chennai's leader could have been the match-winning hero on the day of making such a unique record. But this experienced wicketkeeper batsman failed to match the equation of 5 runs in the last ball. His team lost against Rajasthan Royals by 3 runs.
The hosts did not have a good starting option to chase 76 runs. But Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway did not get off to a good start. Ruturaj returned to Sajghar in the third over of the innings. The young opener was edged while playing Sandeep's ball to the leg side. The right-hander who is in great rhythm scored 8 runs.
After that Conway pulled Chennai with Ajinkya Rahane. They both added 68 runs. Rahane's departure broke their pair. Rahane wanted to sweep a full length delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin. However, he had to fall into the trap of the leg before the wicket as he could not bat and ball. Rahane, who scored a half-century in the previous match, returned today by playing an innings of 31 runs off 19 balls.
Shivam Dube could not take advantage of going down to four. Ashwin scored 8 runs before the leg before the wicket. Moeen Ali, who gave the wicket to Adam Zampa, returned with 7 runs. Ambati Rayudu could not take advantage of the opportunity despite entering the field as an impact player. Juvendra Chahal made a total of 1 run before getting out. In the end, Jadeja's 25 and Dhoni's unbeaten 32 were very close to victory for Chennai.
Earlier, losing the toss and going into bat, Rajasthan scored 175 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Jos Buttler scored the highest 52 runs for the visitors. Apart from this, Ashwin scored 30, Shimron Hetmyer 30 and Devdut Padikal scored 38 runs. Jadeja, Akash Singh and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each for Chennai.
