Most of the pharmacies in Habiganj do not have drug license

Drugs are being sold illegally in a large number of unlicensed pharmacies across the district in Habiganj. Although the Directorate of Drug Administration has given instructions to seal these pharmacies, the local administration is not taking any action in this regard.

According to Chemist and Druggist Association sources, there are more than 5 thousand pharmacies in Habiganj district city and 9 upazilas. Among them, 3500 pharmacies have drug licenses. The remaining 1500 or more pharmacies do not have drug licenses. These pharmacy owners are selling drugs illegally.

Besides, appointment of a pharmacist is mandatory in running a pharmacy, but it has not been done in most of the pharmacies in Habiganj.

On the other hand, on February 28, the Deputy Administrator and Civil Surgeon of Habiganj were told to file a case against drug license-free pharmacies and seal them and notify the Directorate, but no action was taken in Habiganj.

In this regard, a doctor of Habiganj 250-bed District Sadar Hospital, on the condition of anonymity, told Khowai, "It is illegal to run any pharmacy without a drug license and pharmacist appointment. It is also risky. Pharmacies violating these conditions should be closed soon.

Habiganj civil surgeon Dr. Mohammad Nurul Haque said, "Because there is no manpower in the post of drug super in Habiganj, action cannot be taken in this regard." To do this, drug super must be added.
