Record Boro production target fixed for Sylhet region!
Boro paddy harvesting and threshing is going on in all the districts of Sylhet division. There was no incident of dam breaking in Sylhet as there was no flood or heavy rain. Besides, the yield has been good this year as the weather has been favorable compared to last year. According to Sylhet Agriculture Extension Directorate, 80% of paddy harvesting has already been completed in the district. In the next 4 to 5 days, 100% of the harvested paddy will be threshed.
In addition, the use of technology for harvesting rice has increased. Harvester and reaper machines are being used day and night to harvest paddy. That is why the labor crisis could not be the cause of the farmers. The harvester machine has cut the paddy and threshed it immediately and cleaned the straw completely. This has saved the farmers financially as well as harvesting paddy in less time. As a result, farmers can take digital advantage.
Farmers say that they have faced a lot of losses due to natural calamities in the last few years. But this year the yield has been good as the weather has been favorable. Haor paddy harvesting is almost over. Although there is a labor shortage, harvester machines have made paddy harvesting much easier. However, in some areas, Bri-28 variety of rice has been affected by blast disease.
Additional Deputy Director (PP) of Sylhet Agriculture Extension Department Mohammad Anichuzzaman said that if there is no natural calamity and rice can be brought home on time, there will be a record production in the borough this year. This year the production target is 3 lakh 42 thousand 955 metric tons. If all goes well, bore paddy production in Sylhet will miss the target.
Anichuzzaman said that the target of boro rice cultivation was 84 thousand 700 hectares of land this year in Sylhet district, but boro rice cultivation was done on 85 thousand 150 hectares of land. Meanwhile, 95 percent of paddy harvesting has been completed in Haor and 70 percent of paddy harvesting has been completed outside Haor. In all, 80 percent of Boro paddy has been harvested. In the next 4 to 5 days, 100 percent of the rice will be threshed, he said!
Anichuzzaman also said that Sylhet is harvesting paddy with 371 harvesters. Due to which the farmers do not have to suffer even if there is a labor shortage. However, in some areas, Bri-28 variety of rice has been affected by blast disease. This is due to lack of irrigation. Now those who are reaping the rice are benefiting.
Meanwhile in Sunamganj district Boro paddy has been cultivated in 137 haors on 2 lakh 22 thousand 795 hectares of land. Boro paddy has been cultivated on 60 thousand 57 hectares of land in Moulvibazar. Among them, hawre cultivation has been done on 27 thousand 757 hectares of land.
