Second tea auction of Sreemangal season : 50% sold
The second tea auction of the auction year 2023-24 was held at the country's second international tea auction center at Sreemangal in Moulvibazar. 68 thousand 778 kg of tea leaves were auctioned in the auction. The estimated market value of which is about one crore 71 lakh 94 thousand 500 taka. 50 percent of the tea was sold in the auction. The average price of which is about 250 taka.
The auction was held from 10 am to 11:30 am at the temporary office of the Sreemangal Tea Auction Center at the Zilla Parishad Auditorium on Wednesday (May 03). In this auction, black tea from MR Khan tea garden was sold at the highest price, which was priced at Tk 310 per kg.
Moreover, black tea from BTRI tea garden is sold at Tk 300 per kg.
Around 35 buyers from five brokers houses in Sreemangal participated in the auction. In the auction, the green of Sabari Tea Plantation is sold at the price of 1 thousand 700 taka per kg.
Earlier, in the first tea auction of the last 2023-24 auction year, 55 thousand 3.65 kg of tea leaves were auctioned, but 26 thousand 75.45 kg were sold, the price of which is 65 lakh 51 thousand 196.58 taka. The average selling price was Tk 251.24 per kg.
Helal Ahmad, managing director of Sreemangal Brokers said, "The participation of buyers in the second tea auction today (Wednesday) was a little less. Sreemangal could not come today due to tea auction in Chittagong on Tuesday (May 2). About 68,000 kg of tea leaves were on sale on Wednesday (May 3), of which 50 percent of the tea was sold. The average price is around 250 rupees. Out of this Sabari Green was sold for 1 thousand 700 Tk. Black tea of RMR Khan Cha Bagan was sold at a maximum of Tk 310. And BTRI tea is sold at Tk 300 per kg. How the quality of good tea is increasing. Good quality tea, good price. We hope the market will improve.
According to the Bangladesh Tea Board, a total of 23 tea auctions will be held at Sreemangal Tea Auction Center in the financial year 2023-2024. 18 auctions will be held in the current year i.e. 2023 and 5 in next year i.e. 2024. During the week tea will be bought and sold by auction on different dates only on Wednesdays.

26 April 23, 3 May 23, 17 May 23, 31 May 23, 14 June 23, 5 July 23, 19 July 23 and 2 August 23, 16 August 23, 30 August 23, 13 September 23, 27 September 23, 11 October 23, 25 October 23, 8 November 23, 22 November, 6 December 23 and 20 December 23.'
Dates of 18th Auction to 23rd Auction 2024:
3 January 24, 17 January 24, 31 January 24, 14 February 24, and the last auction of the tea production season will be 28 February 24.
