Withdrawal of Ansar from Mayor Arif`s house and personal security

Ansar members in charge of the residence and personal security of Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury have been withdrawn.

District Ansar and VDP office withdrew them around 10 pm on Tuesday. Mayor Ariful alleged that the Ansar members were withdrawn without giving him any prior notice. Therefore, the government will be responsible if any security crisis occurs.

Meanwhile, Ansar and VDP authorities say that Ansar cannot be taken for home or personal security. The matter has been brought under the rules.

According to CSIC sources, five years ago, the city corporation authorities appointed 23 Ansar members from the district Ansar and VDP offices. Among them, five Ansar members were taking turns providing personal security to the Mayor during the day and night. Besides, these Ansar members were also performing security duties at the mayor's residence.

Mayor Ariful Haque said, "As a gunman was not provided for my security, according to the decision of the city corporation, the city authorities appointed Ansar members through the district Ansar and VDP offices in exchange for certain salaries in accordance with the appropriate policies." These five Ansar members were engaged in my security since the appointment. They were withdrawn from my security duties tonight (Tuesday) without any prior notice or reason.

Mayor Ariful said, "Now if I have a security-related crisis, overzealous government officials and the government will be responsible for it."

Ali Reza Rabbi, commandant of Sylhet district of Ansar and VDP, said, 'Five years ago, the city authorities took Ansar to provide security for the city building. Ansar cannot be taken for home or personal security. Of these, five Ansar members were serving as the personal security of the mayor and at his residence. I recently joined here. I came to know the matter after joining and brought it under the rules.

He also said that five Ansar members who were in charge of the Mayor's security have been withdrawn. Now these Ansar members will only perform duties in city buildings. They are ordered to work in city buildings. They will work to provide security in city buildings, but will not do any personal work for anyone.
