SCC polls: Nomination of 5 mayoral candidates cancelled
The nomination papers of 5 individual mayoral candidates in the Sylhet City Corporation elections to be held on June 21 have been declared cancelled.
This information was given by the returning officer Md. Faisal Qadir. At that time he announced the names of valid and invalid candidates.
Candidates whose nominations are valid are Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury (boat), Nazrul Islam Babul (plough), Hafiz Maulana Mahmuduul Hasan (hand fan) and Md. Zahirul Alam (Zak's Party), Mohammad Abdul Hanif Kutu (Independent), Md. Shalah Uddin Rimon (Independent).
All the mayoral candidates whose nominations were canceled were independent candidates. They are Samchun Nur Talukdar, Mohammad Abdul Mannan Khan, Maulana Zahid Uddin, Md. Shahjahan Mia, Mushtaq Ahmed Rauf Mostafa.
Returning Officer Md. Faisal Qadir said that those whose nominations have been canceled can appeal in the next three days.
Sylhet City Corporation was established in 2002. There are 42 wards of this metropolis with an area of 79.50 square kilometers. Total voters are 4 lakh 86 thousand 605 people. Among them 2 lakh 53 thousand 763 men and 2 lakh 32 thousand 842 women. Total centers 190 and polling booths 1 thousand 364.
