Sheola land port opens
Sheola land port has started its journey as the 15th port of the country built at the cost of one hundred and thirty eight crore rupees in Sylhet's Biyanibazar. State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated the land port on Wednesday afternoon (June 7).
At that time, he said, 'through the opening of this port, a new door has been opened in the country's foreign trade. Apart from India, our communication system with Nepal and Bhutan will be improved.
Welcoming the opening of the land port, Sylhet Chamber Vice President Sarwar Hossain Chedu said that revenue collection of the port should not be a thorn in the neck. He further said, "Hopefully, this port will generate a good amount of revenue compared to other ports and business with India will also be good."
Local Member of Parliament Nurul Islam Nahid said, "Many employment opportunities will be created for the management of various activities of the port." So I would request that the people of this area should be given priority in terms of employment.
Eight years after the land port was announced, the Algae Customs Station has been commissioned. In 2020, the Bangladesh Land Port Authority undertook the state-of-the-art 'Sheola Land Port Project' to facilitate the import-export activities between Bangladesh and India on the demand of traders. Those concerned believe that through the opening of this land port, Bangladesh's business and trade with the neighboring country India's Seven Sisters will develop.
