Iam `100% confident` of winning SCC election : Anwaruzzaman
Sylhet City Corporation election is going to be held on June 21. Awami League's nominated candidate in the election is Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury. An interview of him has been published ahead of the election.
Question: You are an expatriate Awami League leader. Participating in an election for the first time. Campaign is over. How many people have received a response?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: I was born in Sylhet. My education was in Sylhet Government College and politics also started in Sylhet. I was out of the country for a long time. Even outside, I have been associated with politics and worked for Sylhet. Although I am the first candidate in the elections, I have the experience of watching and working in Sylhet elections. I was in the last two city elections of Sylhet. Being a candidate for the first time, I have seen that the people of Sylhet are very aware. Politically experienced. They want development. They want work. They know who to work through. In a short time the people of Sylhet have adopted me. They heard my words. Heard my promises too. They found it acceptable. They understand that Sylhet will develop. All in all, I got a positive response from the people of Sylhet.
Question: How much response have you received from the party leaders and workers?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: There were 10 candidates. Everyone is better than me. But after the party nominated me, everyone accepted the party's decision. Everyone stands by me. Every leader and worker of the party has pulled me close. I tried to stand by the party's leaders and workers as much as I could in any situation. I have never seen who is for whom or which group. As a result, the leaders and activists consider me a close person. I have received phenomenal support from the team.
Question: In the last election, apparently everyone was in favor of the candidate of Awami League?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Every leader and worker of the party including Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Svechchasebak League, Sramik League are united with me more than any other time. The organizational unity of the party was not like this in the previous elections. There was a dispersal team. This time, dividing themselves into different zones, they themselves are working for the victory of the boat with that responsibility. There is no organizational weakness this time. There is an urge among all to restore the post of Mayor.
Question: After 10 years, there is an opportunity for the candidate of Awami League to be elected for the post of mayor. How to evaluate the matter?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: The party is in power but they did not have access to Nagarbhaban. Awami League is not in charge of Nagar Bhaban for 10 years because of the vacuum, the urge is felt more among the activists. Their passion for work has increased. Speed up. Not only leaders are elected. All levels of staff will also have access. Not only party leaders but also common people will have access to Nagar Bhaban.
Question: The way the party leaders and activists are surrounded in the campaign, how much influence will they have on development activities if elected?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: If you are elected by the grace of Allah, there is no question of spreading influence in Nagarbhaban. They will not have the capacity to make an impact. Leaders and activists will come. see you Leaders and activists will get opportunities. That doesn't mean others won't. Once the city mayor is elected, all citizens will have equal rights. If someone close to me steps out of line or occurs, he will be in danger. He will be the biggest victim by me. Message clear. Recorded. It won't happen.
Question: Why do you think you are better than other candidates?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: I am Yang. Energetic. I can run. i can work I do politics for the country. I do for the area. I do it for the flag. My childhood dream was to become a public representative and work for the development of Sylhet. When that opportunity arose, since the Prime Minister nominated me, I wanted to do development. I have presented the development plan of Sylhet to the people many times. If Rajshahi City can be an example of the country by developing why Sylhet can not? People have understood these development plans about Sylhet that even if I can't fulfill 100 percent of my promise, I can fulfill 90 percent. So people will vote for me for the development of Sylhet.
Question: So what is your goal to beat Rajshahi's development model?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Not only Rajshahi. I have big dreams about it. I don't want to say more now. I want to decorate Sylhet like other international new cities. Maine City can't be beat that way, though. less space But want to decorate the extended part of the upakantha in that way. There are many ideas.
Question: Participatory election is not?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Of course. The election is crowded. There are 8 mayoral candidates. Councilor candidates are campaigning and mayoral candidates are working. Jatiya Party candidate is strong. I see no reason not to. Humans have spirits. People will come to vote. We will also make every effort to bring people to vote. No matter who you vote for, he comes to exercise his right to vote. It's okay if I fail. Voters come to vote. There are also BNP candidates. They fired 43 people from the fact that they are also in the election. The activists are not accepting the call to boycott the vote.
Question: According to the picture of the election of Barisal, do you have any fear of blocking the voters from BNP?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Boycott of BNP is a political thing. They can give but to obstruct is a crime. If so, he would have been jailed abroad. It is an anti-state act. However, I am not afraid of the friendly political atmosphere in Sylhet. Sylhet is different from other districts.
Question: Jatiya Party also complained that you have concealed the certificate and income in the affidavit?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: I did not hide the information. All missing information. I have a certificate. I have given what I have. There is business in England. have home That is another territory. Income is in London. Can't show it officially. I don't have it here, so I didn't give it. Why give false information? I am not a liar. I have given what is here.
Question: How to evaluate the mayor of the last 10 years Ariful Haque Chowdhury?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Looking positively. He has done some things well. He widened the roads. But did unplanned work. There is unplanned drainage. I will not say that Ariful Haque did very badly. Kamran bhai has done a phase. Arif Bhai also did a phase. I want to do better than them. 2800 crores have been allocated for Sylhet in the last 10 years. But due to unplanned work, government money was wasted.
Question: What is the main problem of Sylhet in your view?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Smart city building is needed first. If the building from which all the civic services of the metropolis are conducted is inadequate, incomplete and inefficient, it is impossible to provide the desired up-to-date services to the public. Sylhet was once called the daughter of nature. Sundari Sribhumi was also called. But today there is no tree. Green nature is destroyed today. Area-wise planned afforestation should be done to build a green Sylhet including roads, construction of houses and giving priority to green in urban planning. The roads should be made beautiful. Apart from this, cleanliness is one of the problems. The city should be kept clean and modern waste management developed. Modern drainage should be arranged. Congestion should be eliminated. City protection dam, digging of Surma river, guard wall should be provided in tea gardens. A congestion-free city should be built. But whatever is done, it should be done on the basis of expert advice and opinion. If necessary, experts should be brought from abroad.
Question: Do you have any plans for tourism in the city?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: There is no entertainment system for tourists in Sylhet city. In this regard, to introduce the culture and heritage of Sylhet, we want to establish a museum in the city and create a cultural complex and entertainment system for tourists around the Surma river and river banks.
Question: Corrupt syndicate active in Nagarbhaban, no quality of service. What do you do?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: City Corporation is a service organization. Service must be provided. If I am elected, poor people who have got jobs in the recruitment of master roll cannot be excluded on humanitarian grounds. However, measures should be taken to prevent any illegal recruitment. Corruption, trade, illegal anything will not be allowed. Service must be provided. Or I won't stay.
Question: There is no establishment named after Bangabandhu in Sylhet. City dwellers demand to build Bangabandhu Garden on the land of the old jail?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: It is true that there is no establishment named after Bangabandhu in Sylhet. But to do something in the name of Bangabandhu, the permission of the Prime Minister is a matter. But I want to do something if elected. I have thoughts on this. However, the residents of the city have been demanding the site of the jail for a long time. It cannot be said what can be done without consulting the ministry. But the city needs parks. For leisure trips to the city's children, old women. Even if not here, safe gardens can be made on the banks of Surma.
Question: You are also making promises that are not within the scope of Sylhet City Mayor.
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: I am giving two promises. I say I will start high speed train. I am saying it is not a city project. I will be the mayor of Sylhet and I will not work for Sylhet? The train will come from the capital to Sylhet. Only the people of Sylhet will travel with it. I will work not only for the people of Sylhet city, but for the whole of Sylhet. When the opportunity arises, if elected, I will collect it from the Prime Minister. This is my dream. It's a big job. I want to start working with it. Everyone can do the drain. How many people can do great work.
Question: Promising alternative power plants. what to do
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Sylhet needs 220 megawatts of electricity every day. Natural calamities in cities often result in load shedding due to faults in transmission lines or fuel shortages. If I am elected, I am talking about setting up a 300 megawatt power plant in Ward No. 31. Will it be solar? Or what will the plant be? Or by planning what method will be done, experts should be consulted. What will be better for Sylhet should be done. Thinking for the next 50 years is in its very early stages. Sylhet City will use National Grid. However, permission of the Prime Minister is required for this. I believe the Prime Minister will allow it for the people of Sylhet.
Question: Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has failed despite promising to eliminate traffic jams, hawkers and street vendors for the past 10 years. How much hope do you give the city dwellers?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: Hopeful. But address carefully. Hawkers and CNG are a problem for us. But they are people of this city, people of this country. Lives in this city. There is a shortage of jobs in our country. No industry. If we clearly take action against them, theft and robbery will increase. Thousands of people will become unemployed. It is a matter of one day. City can be cleaned in one day. Where will they go with the children? They should be rehabilitated smartly by planning weekend market, evening market. CNG stands should be planned in the city. They transport the people of the city. Their side should also be seen. Measures should be taken to prevent illegal CNGs from entering the city. I want eviction and resettlement of hawkers to relieve city dwellers from traffic congestion. But whatever we do must be brought under the master plan.
Question: If you are elected, how do you want to see the image of the city after 5 years?
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury: If God wills, I want to be the mayor for once. People will not vote for me after that. There will be no popularity. Because he is a big man, he knows that he has built a house in the middle of rhyme. If their houses are destroyed, they will start plotting against me. Ariful Haque Chowdhury is in this danger. Arif bhai tried. I don't know what the other side is doing. There must be something. I will not say that there is no occurrence. People are in danger even while doing good work. I will finish my work by demolishing everything within 5 years, completing the eviction. I don't want to be mayor anymore.
