The story of successful female entrepreneur Mahbuba

Comilla's daughter Mahbuba Rahman. Lives in Sylhet. She is working with the famous hand woven khadi cloth of Comilla, bedsheets, three-piece, cotton and silk sarees, famous Manipuri sarees of Sylhet and various indigenous fabrics.

After passing HSC from Comilla Victoria College, Mahbuba joined a private university in Sylhet. Graduated in Computer Science and Engineering.

Mahbuba has developed an interest in working with local products since hes admission in Hons. She  sought out the loom and the weaver out of interest. All of a sudden, the epidemic corona comes. During the lockdown during the Corona-period, house arrest weavers started making sarees. She used to take pictures of sarees and share them on Facebook page called 'Desi Karigar'. During the lockdown, people used to order their favorite sarees from his page. This is how it started. There was no looking back.

Mahbuba said, I liked to wear native dress. Most of the time I used to go to the showroom of the local brands and see our local dresses. Again, I used to buy clothes myself and make new dresses with the designs of my choice. It came to mind that I myself could make a band of my own with the lost looms and work with the disappearing looms of my country. From this I started looking for weavers. In Corona, where everyone's work is stopped, I keep my weaving work going. Weavers also started earning from home. I also started managing my page at home. Little by little the buyers started to trust. Many such customers became my regular customers, Alhamdulillah.

She said, we work with all domestic products, one of which is the famous hand-woven khadi cloth of Comilla. We make Punjabi, kurti, dress with our own favorite design with this cloth. We work with bedsheets, three-pieces, cotton and silk sarees from Comilla famous wax batik. Sylhet's famous hand-woven Manipuri sarees, three-pieces, veils and towels are also available in native craftsmanship. Handwoven Jamdani sarees and Punjabis are also available. Manipuri sarees and jamdani sarees of any color can be customized according to customer's choice.

In the beginning, women faced various obstacles, when asked about this, Mahbuba said, there were not so many obstacles. My family has always supported and encouraged me. Especially my mom has supported me in different ways at different times. My mother contributed a lot to my entrepreneurship. Those who were friends also gave a lot of encouragement. Alhamdulillah everyone has always supported me.

When I dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, I started with the little money I saved. Now I am earning 30-40 thousand taka per month Alhamdulillah.

She said, standing in the context of the current socio-economic condition of Bangladesh, a woman can make an important contribution not only in the job market, but also in creating employment for others by being an entrepreneur herself. I dream big about myself in the future. I will have an organization of my own and I will provide employment opportunity to many people in the organization. I want to keep this contribution to eliminate unemployment.
