In Moulvibazar farmers are in trouble by cultivating Brri 28 padd

In Moulvibazar, the entire paddy of hundreds of farmers' land has been destroyed due to Boro rice Bri 28 blast disease. Some are cutting the spoiled paddy for cows, some are leaving it on the ground. The farmers are worried about their food.

The agriculture department says that farmers have been discouraged from planting Bri 28 and the farmers say that they go to the seed houses in the market and sell this rice to them because it is high yielding.

Buro farmer Yusuf Miah of Srimangal Hail Haor of Moulvibazar said that he cultivates rice of Bri 28 variety on 15 bigha of land in the lower part of Haor. When the rice is starting to ripen, he notices that all the rice in his field is scattered. No action was taken even with the advice of the Agriculture Department.

He said that hundreds of farmers in his own village Yusufpur, Pashbarti Noagao, Rajapur and Uttarbharawa have hundreds of acres of paddy.

At this time, village farmer Zobair Mia showed the paddy of his land and said, Bri 28 has been dishonest with us. Fields are littered with fields.

He said, he does not have his own people. He cultivated 12 kiara of land by spending 75,000 rupees daily with Kamla. It's all over. Now you have to buy rice and eat it.

Anju Kar, a farmer of Noagao village, said that he does not have his own land. Barga cultivated 7 bighas of land. Cultivated by taking loans from people. Now it's time to get on the road.

Shamim Mia, a farmer of Yusufpur village, said that they could not have imagined such a calamity. He said, about 90% of the whole paddy field is sprinkled. Even if 10 percent is good, it will go up with the cut cost so no one is thinking of cutting it. Many people cut it and feed it to cows.

Srimangal Upazila Agricultural Officer. Mohiuddin said, 11451 hectares of land has been cultivated in Srimangal upazila. Of this Bri 28 is 2651 hectares. Some of which are affected by blast disease. When it is first caught the leaves begin to die little by little. That's when farmers are advised to spray two rounds of fungicide. At the same time it is recommended to use potassium fertilizers instead of urea. Many farmers do not spray fungicides, thinking that nothing will happen to these small leaf dies. Some have done a round. But those who obeyed the proper rules did not lose their crops.

At this time he also said that Bri 28 is a very old variety. They have discouraged farmers from cultivating it now. Instead, Bree suggests cultivating 88 and 89.

Rakendra Sharma, Srimangal Agricultural Extension Officer, said that according to their findings, 168 bighas of land were attacked by blast disease. And advised the farmers to move out of it immediately. Therefore, the paddy of the land above 100 bighas was not lost. However, 50 to 60 bigha of land has been destroyed.

Moulvibazar District Agricultural Extension Officer Samchuddin Ahmed said that in the low-lying areas of Moulvibazar Hail Haor, Kouadighi Haor and Hakaluki Haor, about 8 hectares of B28 and B48 varieties of paddy have been destroyed. But it will not create any hindrance in the main production.

He said that the list of affected farmers is being prepared. If any allocation comes from the government to help them then they will get it.
